Clear, practical guides for writing, compiling, and sharing LaTeX and Typst projects.
Collaborate with others
Share a project, pick the right role, and keep access under control.
Share a project
Everyone you invite edits the same current source, so there is never a newest copy to hunt for.
How to do it
- Open the Share control in the project.
- Create or copy an invitation link and send it only to the people who should have access.
- An email invitation is tied to the address it was sent to, and the account accepting it must have that address verified.
- A pending invitation also appears in the invited person's Notifications, where they can Accept or Decline it without opening the email.
- Resend an invitation that has expired — an expired one cannot be accepted.
- The owner's plan sets how many people a project can have, counting the owner: 3 on Free, 11 on Education or Plus, and no limit on Pro. A pending invitation holds a seat, so use Cancel invite to free one.
Choose the right role
A role is the whole permission model: there is nothing to configure beyond it.
How to do it
- A viewer can read, compile, download, and browse history.
- An editor can also change files, restore versions, and run the AI assistant.
- Only the owner can invite people, change roles, manage share links, transfer ownership, or move the project to the Trash.
- A reviewer (Can comment) can do what a viewer can, and also start, reply to, resolve, and reopen comment threads and post in the project chat; a viewer can only read them.
- Make owner hands the project to a member, and you become an editor.
Keep access under control
Access should be as easy to withdraw as it was to grant, which shapes how share links work.
How to do it
- A project can have several share links. When you choose Create link, pick Can edit, Can comment, or Can view, and whether it Never expires, Expires in 7 days, or Expires in 30 days.
- You can change a link's role or expiry later without changing the link itself; anyone who opens it afterwards joins with the new role.
- Creating a new link does not affect the existing ones; choose Revoke on a link to stop it working.
- Revoke a link at any moment when the group that needs it has changed.
- There is no way to leave a project yourself — ask the owner to remove you.
Talk while you work
Conversation stays next to the source, so a question does not have to leave the project to be answered.
How to do it
- Open Collaborate in the Activity Bar and use Chat to message everyone in the project; you can attach images. Viewers can read the chat but not post.
- Type @ in a comment or a reply to mention a project member; they find the mention under Notifications.
- In the Outline, a collaborator's badge shows which section they are editing; click it to jump to their cursor.
